The Salvation Army
The Wildcat Team has helped out with the Salvation Army for two years now by helping hand out food and toys at their Mishawaka location. This was the first year for the boy’s team, and second year for the girl’s team. The salvation gives out toys to the families that can’t afford to get toys for their children. But it wasn’t about giving out toys. It was about showing God’s love, his kindness, and his joy to all the people we came in contact with. Just like the Bible says in James 2:14-18, 26, faith with-out deeds is dead. We can’t just say we believe in God and do nothing. We are supposed to go be love.
This experience has helped me grow and realize that I need to be thankful for what I have. These people have close to nothing, and are very thankful for what they have. So why can’t I?
There was one couple that stood out to me. They came in late, they were signed up to get food, but they asked if they could get toys too. As I sat there listening to what he was saying, I found out that
he lost his job, he wasn’t getting any help from the insurance company, his wife can’t get a job, they have been eating at a homeless shelter, and they were really close to losing their home. What struck me was when he said "I am just so thankful that I can give my family a meal and the love of Jesus Christ my savior". He was so happy that he could do just that tiny little thing.
We had to say no to that couple, because they were only signed up for food. But it made me realize that even when we have nothing God will always be there for us and get us though the tough times. Sometimes people just need to know that God is there.
This is an awesome opportunity to witness to others about Jesus Christ. I hope that every person can go and be love.
God bless you,
