Varsity Girls Volleyball - 3rd place at Calumet Invitational
9/26/2011

The varsity girls Volleyball Team took home some hardware over the week end (9/23-24/2011), third place in the Silver Division.

On friday 9/23/2011 the team went to the Calumet Invitational in Highland Indiana, playing with desire and determination and one player short.  They came out strong aganst the Ft. Wayne Falcons one of the top home school teams in Indiana taking them down to the wire before losing 23-21 and 21-19. Next it was Heritage Christian, one of the top home school teams out of Illinois. They fought hard but lost 21-19 and 21-12. Then came Lakeland Christian, and the girls seemed to be out of sorts with too many mistakes losing 21-19 and 21-8. Not looking good for the Wildcats, three very hard teams to start off with in the tourney.

Oh but what a turn around, they came into the last game of the day with all their players against Community Christian of Illinois playing so much better winning 24-21 and 21-11. Finishing the first day at 2-6. A good nights rest was waiting for the Wildcats.

On saturday 9/24/2011 the Wildcats were ready to play. Up first was Trinity Christian from Kankakee IN, winning in two straight 21-6 and 21-19. This put the Pool play record at 4-6. What a nights sleep did for these Cats. The start of Bracket Play was next, and the LaLumiere Cougars were first. What a good game by both teams back and forth, finally in game 3 the Wildcats pulled it out. Winning 25-20 and 23-25 and 15-8.

Then came a cross town rival Community Baptist of South Bend, IN. The Wildcats played them just 2 weeks earlier lossing in 4 tough games. This was just like those games one point at a time for both teams. Community Baptist pulled it out in both games winning 25-22 and 25-21.

This put the Wildcats playing for 3rd or 4th place. Gut check time for the Wildcats. They have to play the Nobleville Lions from Nobleville, IN with just 15 minute break. They looked into each others eyes determind not to lose the last game of the day. Tired and sore they mustard up something from down deep and won in three games, 25-17 and 19-25 and 15-9. This showed the resolve of the Wildcats team playing 18 game in two days time.

The weekend leaders were Cidney Dobrodt with 43 kills, 55 digs and 29 asst and 9 aces. Jenny Cockrill with 38 kills 3 blocks and just some outstanding indiviual effort at the net. Allison Moore with 52 digs 8 aces. Marina Stair with 9 aces and 43 digs. Autunm Weltz with 8 aces and team leader in serves at over 95%. Kaitlyn Elmerick with team high 38 asst. and Gabby Koble with 46 digs. This was a total team effort. Go Wildcats.
